Reading up on Man of Steel today it was brought to my attention that the Jor-El (Russell Crowe) version of the teaser trailer lifts a bit from Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman (a tremendous work of art, I might add). The trailer can be found HERE.
The quote is from Issue# 12 (or Pages 278 - 279 of the TPB). Superman has essentially died and has a vision of his father who guides him back to life. Part of his speech is:
"You have shown them the face of the Man of Tomorrow. You have given them an ideal to aspire to, embodied their highest aspirations. They will race, and stumble, and fall and crawl... and curse... and finally... they will join you in the sun, Kal-El. In time you will no longer be alone. For Krypton, it was always too late. But the rest of us, the gold in us, will survive in you. All that is impure will be burned to ash. And all that is strong and great and true will survive... and be reborn."

If Zack Snyder is using source material like All-Star Superman as his inspiration I finally have high hopes for this film. Superman seems like a character who is impervious to everything, even evolving with the times, but great writers have done amazing things with the character. Granted, it usually takes some kind of non-continuity work like All-Star Superman or Superman: Earth One to accomplish this, but isn't that what a movie is going to be anyway?
And one more image from All Star Superman because it's such a great book.
